There are many things to consider when buying your first electric bike. Here at E-Lux Electric Bikes, we've created a video series of what we believe are the 5 most important considerations when searching for your new electric bike.

Number 4: GEARS!

The next thing you’re going to want to look for when searching for an Electric Bike is a bike with gears. With electric bikes you can get anything from one gear in the back, beach cruiser style to multi-geared bikes for better riding efficiency similar to road bikes or townies.

Multiple gears allow you to maintain a pedaling speed at the same rate as the bike is going. So when your are only giving the bike a little bit of throttle and going slow, you'd naturally want to be in first gear to maintain a similar pedaling speed. However, when you are full throttle going fast, you'll want to be in the bikes top gear so you can pedal at the same rate the bike is going. There is nothing worse than being on a bike that doesn’t have gears and you’re at top speed, but you’re pedaling like a maniac. A bike with multiple gears is very important for the comfort and ability to ride an e-bike efficiently.
